This shows the driveside with retention spring installed WITHOUT the driveside semi-axle. This gives a visual of what the spring does.

Squeezing the NDS crankarm... This compresses the wave washer and allows the crankset to move outboard thus making a knocking noise...

This is what happens when the bottom bracket isn't chased and faced... The silver material that you see in the upper left is what destroyed the threads on the NDS cup.

What's wrong with this photo?

What's wrong with this photo?

Ok...If you give up, Here's what's wrong. I was doing a frame up build for a client that has his prior bike disassembled for a frame warranty replacement. When I was at the point to install the chain, I found that the shop who did the tear down didn't realize that it was a SRAM PC chain (not that there's a logo stamped on every outter plate...) and instead of taking the chain apart using the Power Link, they just pushed a pin out with a chain tool. I don't want to mention shop names, but I can say that this happened at a certain self proclaimed authority....

The cone on the right is trashed... It will never be the same. The other one is what a new one looks like. BTW, this came off of a Power Tap hub on the drive side.

This is an all too common thing. This photo is showing the differences in the housing lenghts. They're supposed to be the same... It's rare that I see housing cut to proper lenghts.
