Last week I received a few calls about the cover article in the latest edition of Bicycling Magazine titled "Is your mechanic honest?" Most of the calls wrote the article off as an example of shock journalism. An effort to sell more magazines. I have to agree. When I took the time to read the article, I found it more outlandish than real. Does this stuff really happen? Makes me want to avoid NYC bike shops. Three of the examples have to do with blatant dishonesty and illegal practices. The other two paragraphs are directly associated with incompetence....No suprises here. Remember, Hal is writing about bike shops. Speaking of Hal, after doing a little research about the shop where he "wrenches" at, I am not suprised at all about this article. Bicycle Habitat does not come across as a shop that exudes talent and high standards. Then again, neither does Bicycling Magazine. -John
