I just made a call to the Trek Store down in Columbus Ohio. Among other things, I was informed by a salesperson that they have a 30 day exchange policy. You can go in there, drop $1k+ on a 53cm Lemond XXX. You take it home and ride it for a week or so. But something in the back of you mind is bugging you, such as, "maybe I should have bought that Madone instead..." or "I should have purchased the 55cm..." Now that's no longer a concern if you purchace that bike from the Trek Store... As long as you bring that recently purchased bike within the 30 days of purchase, Trek will put the amount that you paid for the bike that you are returning towards another bike. Wow...kinda takes the worry out of making a large $$$ purchase mistake. Hey, all of you IBD's out there...kinda scary huh? It's just a matter of time when there will be a Trek Store in your neighborhood. Then, what are you going to do?

Hey Trek...

Hey Trek....What the heck are you doing?!?!? Are you following in the footsteps of other companies that provide crappy customer service or are you just trying to help the other bike companies sell more bikes? I know of three people in the same amount of months who are less than happy with the warranty process. In fact all three are really hacked off. All are seriously considering jumping ship to another brand. Besides me getting upset because of the level of service these good people have received, I also feel one inch tall because of my recommendations made. Maybe it's time for me to start changing my tune... Up until recently, making the recommendation to buy a Trek was an easy one and my confidence was high that if there was ever a warranty issue, it would be rectified seamlessly. That's the way it was for me the 12+ years of dealing directly with the company. Hey, maybe it's time for me to change the way I recommend Trek. In fact, I welcome John Burke, President of Trek Bicycle Company, to call me directly at 440-503-6257 if he wants to discuss this with me. Hey, I'll go to bat for these three disgruntled clients... For some reason I have a feeling that there's more out there that share the same frustrations. Hey Specialized and Giant...are you listening... Thanks for reading. -John

Today marks the day that Bob Marley would have been 60 years old. Even though I disagree with some of his beliefs, I do appriciate his music and some of his influences. For me, nothing marks spring more than listing to Bob Marley.

View regarding Ultegra 10 and DA 10

I just wanted to give you my brief opinion regarding the quality level of the new Ultegra 10 vs. the Dura Ace 10. I will be asked numerous times over the course of the year my opinion about the two Shimano 10 speed groups. Initially, I can say that without any doubt, that DA is worth the extra $$$. That's not to say that the new Ultegra 10 isn't a great component group....But is there a substantial difference between the two? My short answer is yes. That being said, I was impressed with the latest build that I performed that involved mainly an entire upgrade to Ultegra 10, less the derailleurs (Yes, an Ultegra 9 rear derailleur, as long as it's in good condition, will work with Ult 10 STI's , chain, and cassette). Can I honestly recommend a 2005 Ultegra 10 group or at least a drivetrain upgrade? Absolutely Yes. Is the Dura Ace worth the difference in the price? Again, absolutely yes. That is if it's in your budget... In closing, the new Shimano Ultegra 10 is a great way to get into the wonderful world of 10 speed without breaking to bank. That's it for now. Thanks for reading!
