This is a heads-up to anyone who has a Chris King headset. This headset is in my opinion the best available and most of you are aware of the 10 year warranty. This does not at all mean that it's a "maintenance free" headset. This is a quote directly from the Chris King website:
"In general, headset service should be done at least every two years. In dry climates, service intervals may be longer. In wet climates, service may be necessary as often as every 6 months."
I bet this comes as a suprise! If either of the bearings are too far gone, the cup has to be set back to Chris King to have a new bearing pressed into it. The is not only time consuming but also costly. This option should be avoided. Below is a bearing from a Chris King headset that I recently worked on. This is a good example of how a bearing in a CK headset gets without any maintenance.... Consider yourself warned...
